Abdulsalami Abubakar Discloses 4 Issues That Triggered Sanusi’s Removal

BY LEVI JOHNSON

Abdulsalami Abubakar, the former Nigeria head of state has disclosed four issues which were not nipped in the bud that triggered the dethronement of Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II on Monday.

Abubakar is the chairman of the committee appointed to investigate the ongoing crisis between the incumbent of Kano, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje and the deposed Emir Sanusi.

In the reports submitted to President Buhari as sited by TheCable, for key issues were mentioned as causative agents of the feud between the duo.

The three-man committee listed poor communication, new legislation (Kano state emirates council law, 2019), Sanusi’s public utterances, and appointment of new emirs as major factors that fueled the crisis between the governor and the deposed emir.

Abubakar said: ”Poor communication between the Muhammad Sanusi 11 and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. The report said there was a clear communication gap between the principalities.

The long communication gap, therefore, led to the creation of a new legislation in Kano State under the ‘Kano state emirates council law, 2019. That decision to create a new legislation under Kano state emirates council law did not also sit well with the deposed emir.

Apparently, the creation of a new legislation in Kano State gave rise to deposed emir Sanusi’s public utterances which the Governor Ganduje was not pleased with.

Besides, the last straw that broke the camel’s back was the splitting of Sanusi’s emirate into four by appointing new emirs. This is seen as a major factor that fueled the feud between Ganduje and Sanusi

Also in the committee report, President Muhammadu Buhari has threatened to declare a state of emergency in Kano if the duo failed to resolve their differences.

Buhari in the report directed that the warring parties should be told that a state of emergency would be declared if the rift led to a breakdown of peace in Kano.
