The digitalized Central Motor Registry (CMR) Command Centre has been officially opened at Force Headquarters in Abuja by Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba in order to collect data that will aid in the investigation and recovery of stolen vehicles.
According to CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the force’s public relations officer, “The newly digitalized Central Motor Registry Command Centre will make it possible for members of the public to report vehicles stolen from as far back as the first of January 2018 and yet-to-be recovered to input the vehicle details on the online platform to serve as a reliable data point for the possible recovery of the vehicle.
“The platform will also analyse information about motor vehicles to support police operations and initiatives aimed at boosting national security.
With 200 e-Enforcement Operational Patrol Vehicles with automatic number plate recognition on each vehicle as part of the initial batch, two Command Centres in Abuja and Lagos, 37 CMR Information Centers across the country, and the Federal Capital Territory, the CMR has been fully digitalized.
Adejobi stated that the Department of Information and Communication Technology is home to the Center.
This is consistent with the IGP’s efforts to create a digital environment for national policing that will enable stronger and more proactive measures for crime prevention, investigation, and conviction.
The Inspector-General of Police advised Nigerians and other citizens of the nation to use the platform at https://reportcmr.npf.gov.ng to upload the details of their vehicles on the website starting today, December 7, 2022, as a security measure to prevent them from being stolen and re-registered.
