Former National President, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr Olisa Agbakoba SAN has disclosed that at the inception of the creation of Amotekun, the security arm of the southwestern states, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu was involved.
He said the inspector- general who was involved in the creation of Amotekun along the line backed out maybe when he has a re-think.
Agbakoba said: “The Inspector-General (IG) was involved when they started but don’t know what happened and he backed out. Maybe they had a re-think.”
Dr Agbakoba who spoke in Lagos along with other Senior lawyers and critical stakeholders, including rights’ crusader Femi Falana, public analyst Jiti Ogunye and Are Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland Gani Adams among others, concluded that the AGF erred in his declaration.

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, AGF had said that the creation of Amotekun by the six governors of western states was illegal.
Speaking at the 16th Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) Annual Lecture/Symposium (Fawehinmiism) organized by Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja Branch and held at Oranmiyan Hall, Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Dr Agbakoba and Falana said the governors of the region have done no wrong with the formation of Amotekun corps.
They said governors were not under any obligation to consult with the AGF before taking security measures to protect their domains.

Agbakoba who was the guest speaker said: “What the governors are doing is not policing but security measures.
“The Inspector-General (IG) was involved when they started but I don’t know what happened and he backed out. Maybe they had a re-think.”
Agbakoba said the constitution being operated gave the governors wide and enormous powers, which he noted, they have not exhausted.
According to him, there is enough space in the constitution for everybody to advance.
“We all need to have the Gani spirit. Maybe, the association of Attorney Generals would need to go to court on the matter to determine who is wrong,” he said.
