Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, promised on Thursday that when he takes office as president on May 29, he will keep every campaign promise he made.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at the opening of the Magistrates’ Court Complex named for a former chief judge of the state, Justice Iche Ndu (ret. ), Tinubu, whose campaign platform was dubbed “Renewed Hope,” made the pledge.
Bola Tinubu stated, “The reform is on its way; I am here in the hope that you will collaborate with me; I promise you my commitment to fulfill all political promises I made.”
“I promise Nigerians that the unity of this nation is not negotiable,” he continued. Together, Nyesom Wike and I are advocating for this. I swear to treat everyone fairly.
“We must ruthlessly combat poverty, and we will. the poverty of logic, poverty of standards, and poverty of thinking.
Bola Tinubu praised Wike for erecting the courthouse, which he called beautiful, and said that caring for judges and ensuring their comfort was the best approach to fight judicial corruption.
“I take a different angle to what Wike has done here today,” Tinubu said. It is battling corruption, and you have been making excellent contributions.
You shouldn’t expect your judges to operate, live, or administer justice amid squalor. This is one of the adjustments that must be made to our policy think tank.
“We need to fight corruption, but we also need to consider the other side of the story. You must be concerned for the welfare of your judges if you don’t want them to be crooked. You don’t want them to work in risky situations if you want justice to be administered fairly. Think about value for value. If you ask me to pay N5m or N6m for the car I required right away and I don’t have credit, you’re encouraging corruption.
“However, having consumer credit will lessen your propensity to corruption. We don’t want our judges to interfere with justice or act improperly. Don’t only read the books; take action. We will examine each of these in our policy think tank, I assure you of that.
With what Wike had done, according to Tinubu, it was up to the judges to administer justice.
May God grant you the determination and dedication to administer justice to our society, he prayed.
In response to Wike’s demand for a pledge that the Federal Government should return the money spent by the state on federal projects, he blasted “the diversion they gave my story yesterday (Wednesday).”
I don’t want to fight with anyone or with people before I even take office, Tinubu declared. But I always say what I think. On the same platform, we are. We must coexist and be tolerant of one another.
Wike previously emphasized the need to strengthen the maintenance culture in the nation, claiming that it was too soon for the Council of Legal Education to disregard the Dr. Nabo Graham-Douglas Campus of the Nigerian Law School, which he built, in Port Harcourt.
I’ll Encourage Harmony, Tinubu Assures Nigerians
According to Wike, “The (Rivers) State government gave out N400M, and said, ‘Look, put it in an account for the maintenance of the structures.’ This was done when we handed the Law School over to the Council of Legal Education.
“We provided them the land they may utilize to generate income to maintain the school. We didn’t want them to claim that the federal government had not issued any money or that the amount it had was insufficient. The other day, I was informed that there was no water and no light. I’m baffled by our system.
“As I am leaving office, I don’t want to witness or hear that it is in disrepair when I come here this year; it will be unfair. You will therefore receive N20m each month to keep this facility up. Therefore, we will pay you one year in advance so that you can maintain this building properly, he remarked at the complex’s launch.
