Fayemi Slashes 50% Salaries Of Ekiti Appointees

Twenty-four hours the Kaduna Ekiti State governor Nasir El-Rufai slashed fifty per cent of his political appointees’ salaries, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has done the same to his political appointees.

Fayemi, has on Tuesday directed that salaries of all political appointees in the state, including himself and his deputy, be slashed by 50 per cent with immediate effect.

He explained that the development was as a result of the crumbling global economy occasioned by the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Fayemi who disclosed this in a statement in Ado-Ekiti, on Tuesday through his Commissioner for Information, Muyiwa Olumilua, said:  ”The pay cut will be channelled into the execution and completion of legacy projects in the state, as hitherto planned.

“The global economy has been severely affected and it has affected Nigeria’s economy as a nation and expectedly, Ekiti.

“As a responsive and responsible government, the Fayemi-led administration has taken stock of our financial situation, vis-a-vis our constantly decreasing receipts from the Federation Account, as well as our dwindling internally generated revenue and has been forced to wake up to the current realities of our fiscal position.

“With promises made to the Ekiti people while seeking their mandate, coupled with the moral duty of improving their welfare, a time for making difficult decisions is at hand, and make them we must.”
