Court Adjourns Hearing Due To Interpreter’s Absence- Ummita

Geng Quangrong, a Chinese national, is accused of killing his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Sani Buhari, in a case that has been deferred due to a lack of an interpreter in Kano High Court Number 17, which is located at Miller Road and presided over by Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji.
Defense attorney Muhammad Dan’azumi made a motion to halt the hearing because the accused has to be spoken to in a language he can comprehend at the resumed hearing.
Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, M. A. Lawan, spoke briefly and stated that the case could not be heard because the accused has a fundamental right to communication in a language he can understand.
“The need for an interpreter was brought up, which is a constitutional problem. After the previous adjournment, we addressed a letter to the Chinese embassy asking for an interpreter since we anticipated this would occur, and I am confident they will. Because of this, we postponed the subject for at least three weeks. It’s meant to be a week normally.
