Lagos State Eliminates Fees for Scholarship and Bursary Applications to Support Youth Empowerment

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced the removal of application fees for scholarships and bursaries offered by the Lagos State Scholarship Board (LSSB). The decision, effective immediately, aims to enhance access to educational opportunities, particularly for economically disadvantaged students.

In a statement released by the LSSB Secretary, Mr. AbdurRahman Lekki, the move aligns with the administration’s broader initiative to promote youth empowerment and social inclusion. Lekki highlighted that stakeholders had raised concerns about financial barriers to educational opportunities, and eliminating these fees addresses those issues directly.

Lekki also noted that the revenue from the application fees accounted for only 0.5% of the agency’s budget, reinforcing the decision to remove them. He praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, stating that the move underscores the administration’s commitment to equitable education and strengthens Lagos State’s reputation as a government that prioritizes youth development.
