After the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB enforced a sit-at-home order in the State, people of Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, were observed scurrying from one place to another in apparent dread and commotion.
Following the incident, Keke riders, commuters, motorcycle riders, and other road users could be seen driving at high speed while attempting to reach any safe spot within the State.
In a desperate attempt to find safety, the majority of the residents who had fled their homes in the early hours of Monday did so in any nearby compound or residential area.
Some well-known markets, including Ahia-ofu, Kpirikpiri, the International market, and the Ebebe market in Abakaliki, were reportedly confused.

It was discovered that IPOB members were purportedly spotted shooting randomly near the Ebebe market, causing onlookers to flee for safety.
It was learned that several confirmed deaths are said to have occurred as a result of IPOB’s enforcement.
The incident resulted in fatalities in Ahia Ofu as many people were seen scurrying about Waterworks Road, Mbukogbe, Ezza Road, and Udensi Street as unidentified individuals attempted to enforce the sit-at-home order on the State’s residents.
Customers that visited the United Bank for Africa, or UBA, to conduct a financial transaction were reportedly locked inside the building out of fear of becoming victims.
While recounting his ordeal, one Abakaliki resident (names omitted) said: “I am currently seeking refuge in a motel. When I noticed people running erratically in front of the government building, I went to get a recharge card.
“People hastily put their belongings inside of their stores while traffic police officers on duty across from the government building rapidly changed into new uniforms.
“I left that region after hearing numerous gunshots and drove to Kpirikpiri, where the road was vacant. Along the historic Enugu route, people have parked their belongings inside of their stores.
“Remain in your homes, if you are still there until the calm has returned.”
I’m also seeking refuge in a colleague’s home, a resident furthered. Just before the Spera-in-Deo crossroads, where I was standing, I heard gunshots and saw people fleeing for cover. I was able to travel from convent road to Agwu Street.
Security personnel “are around Kpirikpiri trying to bring peace and order,” according to an eyewitness statement.
Major streets in the city were barren in certain areas in the State because so few people were spotted walking to their destinations.
