Bamuwa Umaru, 62, has been detained by the Kano State Police Command for reportedly attempting to bribe a police officer in order to gain the release of Yusuf Ibrahim, a suspected kidnapper.
An offer of a one million naira payment to obtain the release of one Yusuf Ibrahim, 27 years old, was made to SP Aliyu Mohammed, Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department, Kano State Command, but he declined.
According to Haruna, the suspect admitted to participating in a string of kidnappings in communities in the states of Katsina and Zamfara and also claimed that his syndicate had killed up to 10 of their victims, of whom he personally killed two.

“On December 16, 2022, at around 2 p.m., one Alhaji Bamuwa Umaru, 62, of Shika town, Sabon Gari LGA, Kaduna State, approached SP Aliyu Mohammed, the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, State Criminal Investigation Department, Kano State Command, and offered him the sum of N1 million as a bribe to secure the release of one Yusuf Ibrahim, 27.

“Ibrahim was recognized by a motorist they kidnapped along the Funtua-Gusau Road, and he was identified by a team from Operation Restore Peace led by CSP Usman Abdullahi, the Divisional Police Officer, Rijiyar Zaki Division Kano, after they demanded N500,000 as ransom before releasing him.
The suspect confessed to the murder after a preliminary investigation, and he also admitted to taking part in a string of kidnappings in the villages of Sheme, Yankara, Faskari, and Kucheri in the states of Katsina and Zamfara, respectively.

Additionally, he admitted that two of the victims he alone killed were among the approximately 10 victims of their kidnapping who were executed by the syndicate, according to the police spokeswoman.
Upon completion of the inquiry, the individuals would be charged in court, he stated.
According to Haruna, CP Mamman Dauda, commissioner of police, thanked the good people of Kano, other law enforcement organizations, the media, vigilante organizations, and the community policing stakeholders of the Command for their prayers, support, encouragement, and cooperation.
