Kanu Denies the Sponsorship of IPOB by Abaribe

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has denied claims in some quarters that Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe is sponsoring his group.

Naija News reports that Kanu denied this during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra on Sunday, December 8, where he spoke on the maltreatment of Omoyele Sowore by officials of the DSS and the abuse of human rights in Nigeria.

Kanu, who lamented during the broadcast that the IPOB is not getting support from South East leaders, maintained that Senator Abaribe has not given his group a dime but that he (Kanu) loves Abaribe because the lawmaker speaks the truth always.

Naija News recalls that Senator Abaribe and two others stood as sureties for Kanu before he was granted bail on health grounds by a Federal High Court in Abuja on April 25, 2017.

Justice Binta Nyako, who presided over the matter at the time, granted Kanu bail on health grounds, after part of the charges filed against him and three others – were struck out by the court.

Ruling on the bail application, Justice Nyako barred Kanu from granting press interviews and participating in any rally or joining a crowd of more than 10 persons during the course of his bail.

Earlier this year, Kanu said that he would remain grateful to all his sureties for standing by him all through his travails, trials, and tribulations.

Speaking via a broadcast on Biafra Radio, the IPOB noted that they stood by him in his moment of despair.

“I remain eternally grateful to my sureties for standing by me all through my travails, trials, and tribulations,” Kanu had said in April 2019.

Reechoing his appreciation, Kanu berated Igbo leaders for not supporting IPOB, adding Abaribe’s support for his group is the reason the Senator can never be attacked like Ike Ekweremadu and Rotimi Amaechi.

Kanu asked during the broadcast on Sunday: “Have you seen anybody tough Abaribe?”

The IPOB leader furthered: “Tough him and you will see. Abaribe has not given IPOB one dime but the man speaks the truth, that is why I love Abaribe.”
