Lagos Landlord Charged With Assaulting A Female Tenant

Kehinde Davies, a 48-year-old Lagos landlord accused of assaulting his female tenant, was brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Ogba.

The police presented auto dealer Davies before Magistrate O. I. Raji on Thursday, where he was charged with two counts that touch on assault and conduct likely to disturb the peace of the community.

Inspector Emmanuel Ajayi, the prosecutor, said in court that the defendant had beaten his renter Nafisat Sanusi.

According to Ajayi, the event happened on April 16, 2023, at approximately 8.30 p.m. at No. 17, William Elliot Estate, in the Abule Egba neighborhood of Lagos.

According to him, the defendant reportedly beat the victim and injured her bodily.

The prosecutor further informed the court that the defendant behaved in a way that might have disturbed the peace.

The prosecution claims that the crime committed violated Sections 172 and 168 (D) of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of Nigeria (2015).

The defendant, however, rejected the accusations and entered a not-guilty plea to the charges.

The prosecution requested a trial date after the defendant entered a plea of not guilty and urged the court to send the defendant to a detention facility until the charges against him were resolved.

However, the defendant begged the court, through his attorney, to grant him the most lenient bail conditions possible on the grounds that he is a first-time offender and that the allegations against him are bailable.

Since Magistrate O was absent, Magistrate Raji filled in.

Fagbohun granted the defendant bail in the amount of N100,000 with two sureties in the same amount.

The court postponed consideration of the case until May 25 and ordered that the defendant remain in custody until the completion of the bail requirements.
