Lawan Says Senate Will Pass Buhari’s $30bn Loan Request

Mr Ahmad Lawan on Monday said the Senate would pass the $29.96 billion loan request by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Lawan told told journalists in Abuja that he would approve the loan and ensure adequate oversight of the spending.

Mr Lawan said: ”The Senate is going to be critical that every cent that is borrowed is tied to a project.

”Recall that a similar request by Mr Buhari to the 8th Senate led by Bukola Saraki was rejected.”

Mr Lawan, who was a senator in 2016, said the Senate was right then to have rejected Buhari’s loan request.

Lawan said: “In 2016, there were no sufficient details of the loan request. But now the executive has learnt its lessons.

Ahmad Lawan said that Mr Buhari had provided necessary details of what the loan would be used for in his new request.

“The letter conveying the loan request of the executive came with every possible details,” Lawan said
