Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Muslims across the country to look out for new moon on Friday.
The President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), in a statement by NSCIA Deputy Secretary-General Prof. Salisu Shehu, said: ”Sultan Abubakar said Ramadan will be 29 on Friday, hence the need to look out for the Shawwal moon, which ushers in Sallah.
He said: “Following the advice of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), Friday, May 22, which is equivalent to Ramadan 29, 1441 AH is the first day to look for the Crescent of Shawwal, 1441 AH. However, on that day, the moon will set a few minutes before the sun which makes the sighting of the crescent practically impossible.”
