Maltina Teacher 2022: Plateau Teacher, Alaku Ayiwulu Emerges Winner

A teacher from Plateau State, Mr Alaku Ayiwulu, has been named the Maltina Teacher of the Year for 2022.

Ayiwulu will receive a total cash prize of N6.5 million (N1.5 million immediately and N1 million annually for the next five years) from the Nigerian Breweries – Felix Ohiwerei Trust Fund for winning the 8th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year.

He would also have the opportunity to participate in an all-expenses-paid capacity development training abroad, while the Fund will construct a fully equipped computer laboratory or six-classroom block in his honour for his school.

Mr Musa Saidu of Borno State won the first runner-up prize of N1.5 million, while Mrs Ifeoma Stella of Enugu State won the second runner-up prize of N1, 250.000.00.

The other ten teachers who were named state champions received N500,000 each.

The top 10 finalists for the 2022 edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year
Award competition include: Luga Cyprian Toryila (Benue State), Musa Saidu(Borno State), Ifeoma
Stella(Enugu State), Blessing Lydia Titiloye (Lagos State), Garba Abraham (Niger
State), Adewale Kayode Abayomi (Ogun State), Olanrewaju Olubunmi Olayemi (Oyo
State), Alaku Ayiwulu (Plateau State), Zainab Gambo(Yobe State) and Kabir Musa
(Zamfara State).

Since its inception, the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative has produced six grand winners: Rose Nkemdilim Obi of Anambra (2015), Imoh Essien of Akwa Ibom (2016), Felix Ariguzo of Delta State (2017), Olasunkanmi Opeifa of the Federal Capital Territory (2018), Ezem Collins (2019), Oluwabunmi Anani (2020), Abanika Taiye (221 and now Alaku (2022).

The Maltina Teacher of the Year competition was launched in 2015 by the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund to identify, honour, and reward outstanding teachers in Nigeria.

The Maltina Teacher of the Year is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and other education stakeholders such as the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

The Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund was established in 1994 with a start-up capital of 100 million Naira to enable sustained quality education through sector intervention.
