NBC Fines TVC For Broadcating Tinubu and Keyamo Hate Speeches

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) fined Continental Broadcasting Services Limited, the owner of Television Continental (TVC), for “broadcasting hate speech.” As a result, NBC demanded that TVC pay a N2 million fine within two weeks of receiving the notice.
The commission noted in a letter dated February 3 and signed by NBC Director-General Balarabe Ilelah that it was monitoring TVC’s “consistent” infringement of the Nigeria broadcasting code in its coverage of general election activities.
According to NBC, the channel broadcasts “hate speech, aggressive, offensive, and unfair comments,” and the disturbing trend has become a house style on TVC.
The commission highlighted TVC broadcasts, including a press conference by Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, and remarks by Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate.

NBC Warns Media Houses Against Airing Fake News

”The Party’s Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also made the following remarks: “When you hear Atiku use the word Muslim and say ‘Wallahi, Talahi, you know what is in his heart?
“na lie I lie”. Anytime you hear Atiku say Wallahi Talahi, just reply to him say, na lie you lie’.” NBC also made reference to a comment by Tinubu during the APC rally in Anambra, during which he referred to Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), as a person who cannot keep his promise.

”The commission also accused TVC of not giving equal coverage to all political parties. “On October 10, 2022, your station started its news with 17 minutes of APC news and 1 minute of PDP news with a video clip that did not play,” it added.
