‘Comprehensive Maintenance’ Required A Presidential Jet To Travel Abroad

Nigeria’s Boeing 737 Presidential plane has been flown out of the country for extensive maintenance, ahead of the inauguration of a new President on May 29, 2023.
NAF 001, which has served the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), for the past eight years, was reportedly moved out of the nation over the weekend, according to sources at the Villa.
Although the location is unknown, the aircraft’s maker, Boeing, performed previous maintenance on it in the United States of America.
At its factories in Everett and Renton, Washington (outside of Seattle), South Carolina, and other locations, Boeing’s military aircraft division produces modified 737 aircraft.
The President’s most recent flight on the 20-year-old aircraft was to Accra, the capital of Ghana, where he addressed a summit of the Gulf of Guinea Commission.
Buhari will use another plane from the Presidential Air Fleet during his remaining four weeks in office, the source claimed.
On April 3, 2001, Olusegun Obasanjo, the president at the time, received approval from the Senate to spend N5.5 billion on a new presidential aircraft.
In order to fund the purchase of eight brand-new aircraft for the presidential aviation fleet, Obasanjo requested $19 million in February of that year from the Senate.

He had previously warned the upper parliamentary chamber that “it is necessary to start the process of renewing the presidential fleet of aircraft, some of which are 20 years old and beyond.”
After the Senate rejected Obasanjo’s initial request in 2000 due to a technical issue that left him stranded in Switzerland while attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, he resubmitted his request.
After significant avionics and other mechanical system modifications, the Boeing aircraft will be delivered back to the old administration in May.
