Ondo Monarch, Wife Pelt With Stones Over New Yam Festival

Oba Aderemi Abiodun Adefehinti

The Alara of Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore local government area of Ondo state, Oba Aderemi Abiodun Adefehinti, over the weekend, confirmed that his subjects attacked and chased him and his wife out of his palace, following his refusal to participate in the Odun Ijesu new yam festival rituals.

The monarch also confirmed how he was rescued from irate youth in the town Saturday 13 September, 2019 to receive treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Akure along with his Olori (wife).

Speaking at his palace over the issue after returning from Akure hospital last weekend, Oba Adefehinti said the conflict that led to destruction of his palace and injuring of his wife was caused by what could be described as a communication gap.

He said: “The celebration started well from the temporary palace but was hijacked by the irate youths when they realized that I was not in the crowd leading the dancing aspect (of the festival).

Unfortunately, some youth embarked on mayhem to my consternation.

“The Olori and some innocent individuals, including chiefs were hit with stones thrown by the irate youth.

Part of the palace was torched while several windows and the main entrance glass door were broken.

“I had to go to a private hospital in Akure to treat myself and the Olori, who was bleeding profusely on the forehead hit by stone! I returned to the town a few days ago.

.”The Alara, who ascended the throne 21 years ago, said “we have decided to keep the peace by not asking for police investigation into the incident.

We are very conscious of the fact that the miscreants are still our children,” the monarch noted.
