Orji Kalu Knows Fate In Prison June 2

On June 2, former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s fate whether to remain in prison or get freedom as the Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed that day for hearing his application.

Orji filed the motion on May 12 asking the court to nullify his conviction.

Senator Orji is serving a 12-year jail term at the Correctional Service Centre in Kuje, Abuja for looting N7.65billion belonging to Abia State.

Kalu has hired a 12-man team of lawyers, including six Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN)s, to prosecute his freedom bid.

Justice Mohammed Liman will preside over the motion on notice.

December 5, Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court, convicted Kalu and a former Director of Finance in the
Abia State Government House, Ude Jones Udeogu, of the offence.

Kalu is contending that no legal basis exists for his continued incarceration following the Supreme Court’s judgment which declared his trial a nullity and freed Udeogu.
