Remember that the suspected hoodlums attacked the spare parts market, which is primarily dominated by Igbos, in the early hours of Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
The Nigerian Police Tolu Division recovered the lifeless body of a male adult near the scene of the fire.
Reacting to the incident, Peter Obi via his Twitter handle on Wednesday expressed sadness whilst commiserating with those affected with the fire disaster.
He further called on the government to investigate the cause of the outbreak and find ways to help traders who were affected by the incident.
He said: “This morning, I received the sad news of the fire outbreak at Akere Spare Parts Market in Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos. Hopefully no life was lost, but the means of livelihood and properties, worth millions of naira, lost to the inferno are of great concern to me.
“I commiserate deeply with all those affected by this fire disaster. I call on the government and relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the fire outbreak thoroughly, and forestall future occurrence, while finding ways to help the affected victims.
“The need for equal protection under the law; and government’s meeting of her responsibility to protect lives and property cannot be overemphasised.”
Meanwhile, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos state, has visited the scene where Igbo shops were set ablaze by thugs last night.
He condemned the crime while sympathising with victims who had property worth millions of naira destroyed.
