Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, has urged the Super Falcons to continue and win the FIFA Women’s World Cup following their win against co-hosts Australia on Thursday.
In their first victory at the football festival, the Falcons defeated an obstinate Australian team 3-2 on Thursday at Brisbane Stadium.
In the first minute of first-half extra time, Australia’s Emily van Egmond scored the game’s opening goal. Nigeria’s Uchenna Kanu responded with an equalizer six minutes later.
Later, Osinachi Ohale and Asisat Oshoala gave Nigeria the lead, and in extra time, Alanna Kennedy scored Australia their second goal.
The First Lady urged the squad to go all the way and win the cup for Africa when she watched the game at her Abuja residence, saying the team had Nigerians proud.
