The two Nigerians, who are reportedly housemates at William Carey University, were taken into custody after they were convicted of committing crimes on the internet.
The pair, who were found guilty in Mississippi before US District Judge Kristi Johnson, would be sentenced on February 15, 2023, according to the Aclsports article.
According to reports, Ineh and Adebakin have confessed to the crimes they are accused of committing and have begged for forgiveness in the sentence they would receive in the following year.
The two Nigerians made thousands of dollars illegally on the internet through dating scams and deceptive claims. The maximum sentence for Ineh, a potential long and triple jumper, and Adebakin, a 400- and 200-meter runner, is ten years in prison. Their sports career may be impacted or put to a stop since serving 10 years in prison will undoubtedly be a major setback.
