WAEC Discloses Reasons It Withdraws Candidates’ Certificates Of 1992 & 1993

BY DAYO ADESULU
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has explained reasons it withdrew the certificates of some 1992 and 1993 candidates.
Mr Demian Ojijeogu, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC told The Cheer on Wednesday that the affected candidates’ certificates were withdrawn because they made confessional statements of examination malpractice
Ojijeogu said: ”The certificates of the affected candidates were impounded at the Zonal/Branch offices of WAEC at the point of issuance because they made confessional statements to the effect that they were impersonated in the various examinations indicated against them.
”The certificates were returned by the WAEC offices concerned to our Post Examinations Department (PED) for presentation to the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) for cancellation.
”NEC is the highest decision making organ of WAEC on examination-related matters. NEC met on November 5-7, 2019 and cancelled the results.
”The general public was then informed through a paid advert that was published in three national dailies (The Punch; Vanguard and Nigerian Tribune of Friday, November 29, 2019) that the Council have cancelled the results of each of the candidates listed and their certificates have been withdrawn.
”This is not the first time WAEC will be making such a publication as it is usually done twice every year.
”We also inform the National Universities Commission (NUC); National Board for Technical Education (NBTE); National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and it is also published in the Council’s corporate website.”
