There is no such directive from President Bola Tinubu, contrary to rumours that he has ordered the suspension of Mallam Mele Kyari as Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd.
On Saturday night, Presidency sources told The Whistler that the President had not given such a directive to suspend Kyari as NNPC CEO.
On Saturday evening, social media platforms were ablaze with posts claiming that the President had ordered Kyari’s immediate removal as NNPC GCEO.
The purported suspension of Kyari gained traction on social media because it came only 24 hours after the Presidency announced the suspension of Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to multiple sources in the Presidency, there is no plan to suspend Kyari as GCEO of the NNPC.
“We learned about the alleged suspension through social media posts,” one of the sources said. But I can assure you that such a directive is not coming from the President. Nigerians are known to experiment with trends, and such posts could have been made by someone sitting somewhere.
