2023: Ogun APC Candidates Fired By The Court

The Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, declared Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) primary poll that produced Hon. Isiaq Abiodun Akinlade as the House of Representatives candidate for the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency invalid on Thursday.
The Federal High Court also declared invalid the election that resulted in Biyi Adeleye winning the Remo North State constituency for the APC House of Assembly candidate.
In a different decision, the court validated the primaries that led to Olumide Aderinokun’s selection as the Peoples Democratic Party’s senate candidate in Ogun Central District.
The judgments in the various cases determined on Thursday were delivered by the presiding judge, O.O. Oguntoyinbo.
The election of Akinlade as a candidate for the House of Representatives was deemed “irregular, null, and void” by Oguntoyinbo.
Chief Michael Adebayo Adeleke, an unsatisfied candidate, filed the lawsuit against the APC, Isiaq Abiodun Akinlade, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The plaintiff requested that the court rule that the primary election held on May 27, 2022, in Orona Hall, Ilaro to choose candidates for the House of Representatives did not adhere to the party’s rules through his attorney, George Oyeniyi.
Justice Oguntoyinbo ruled that Akinlade failed to submit an application for screening by the APC for the National Assembly primary election for the 2023 election and neither paid for an expression of interest nor a nomination form.
In order to choose and nominate a candidate for the Yewa South and Ipokia Federal Constituency seat in 2023, the court ordered a new primary to be held within 14 days.
Additionally, the court prohibited APC and INEC from endorsing Akinlade as the candidate for the House of Representatives in the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency.
Akinlade, who was listed as the second defendant, should not be allowed to vote in the next primary election, according to Oguntoyinbo.
The poll that resulted in Biyi Adeleye being chosen as the APC House of Assembly candidate for the Remo North State constituency was also declared invalid by the judge in a separate ruling.
In order to challenge the primary election, the incumbent member, Hon. Osho Solomon, brought the APC, INEC, and Adeleye before the court.
The judge affirmed Aderinokun’s selection as the PDP candidate for Ogun Central when delivering the decision in another matter.
Aderinokun was brought before the Court by Dada Oduntan, a former candidate.
The PDP candidate’s attorney, Stanley Imhanruor, responded by calling the judgment a positive development.
We are in court this morning; of course, we will dismiss their complaint because it is ineligible, he said. They came before the court and requested that it recognize Engr. Dada Kolawole Oduntan as the PDP’s fully nominated candidate.

“We disputed the claim that Olumide Aderinokun is the candidate who has been duly nominated.
“The court ruled that their lawsuit was not filed in accordance with the law’s due process requirements. The original petitioner was not recognized by law, and the summons was not lawfully issued. And the court dismissed the case based on that fundamental.
Imhanruor said, “By the judgment of today, my client remains the candidate of the PDP,” when he was asked how the decision would influence an earlier decision that mandated new primaries for all PDP seats.
In addition, the judge who issued the rulings on Tuesday and today is the same.
Barr. Abiodun Aboaba, the plaintiff’s attorney, stated that after reviewing the entire judgment, his client would take the appropriate action.
