Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has trained visually impaired persons on the use of technology in voting.
Pastor Monday Tom Udo, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Bayelsa State, called the voting technology ‘Braille Ballot Guide’.
Udo said the Braille Ballot Guide’ technology could assist a blind person to vote easily.
He explained that Braille Ballot Guide will help them in choosing their preferred party to vote.
Pastor Udo said the BBG will be in use during November 16, 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa State.
Udo urged over 100 visually impaired persons that attended the training, to endeavour to go out during the election day to vote.
He said that disclosing that INEC had made adequate arrangements to help them participate in the election.
Udo said: “This initiative is to make sure that those with disabilities are part of Nigerian elections. And we are very happy in Bayelsa INEC because we are being proactive.
“I thank the development partners that collaborated with us to ensure that persons with disabilities can vote.
“We have arranged that the blind in every polling unit will first vote. We will give the blind therefore a different line to queue.”
