Detective Officers Arrest Cult Members At Ijanikin

Nigerian detective officers have arrested two suspected members of a secret cult group at Ijaniki area of Lagos State.

The suspects were identified as Israel Taiye and Isiaka Afeez.

It was proved that these suspects were really cultists as guns and cutlasses were allegedly recovered from the suspect.

The suspects were arrested at the Otto Awori area of Ijanikin by a police team led by the Divisional Police Officer.

Suspected members of Aiye and Eiye had recently attacked one another, leading to the death of no fewer than four people.

After frequent attacks from the cultists, the Divisional Police Officer asked his men to be on the lookout for the cult suspects.

It was learnt that the Divisional Police Officer, who had been worried by the frequent attacks, detailed his men to be on the lookout for the cult suspects.

It was learnt that, on Sunday, members of the outlawed gangs engaged one another in a bloody battle again at the Otto Awori area.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident, said police operatives attached to Ijanikin Division of the Lagos State Police Command On July 25, 2021, at about 11 am, arrested two suspected cultists at Oto Awori, Ijanikin Area of Lagos State.

Adejobi said the Police operatives raced to the scene and arrested the two suspects while responding to a distress call following the attacks on one another with dangerous weapons along Oto Awori Ijanikin Expressway by Ile Oba Bus Stop.

He said, due to the swift response of the police, normalcy was immediately restored to the area and no life was lost in the clash.

“The suspected cultists arrested are Taiye Israel, m, and Isiaka Afeez, m.

“Items recovered from them include one axe, some cutlasses, assorted charms and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp,” he added.

Adejobi further stated that the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, had also ordered that the suspects be transferred to the Command’s Strike Team, Ikeja, for proper investigation and possible arrest of other members of the gangs.

He said the state police boss further directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ijanikin Division to step up his anti-crime strategies in curbing crimes and criminality, especially cultism, in his area of responsibility.

“Odumosu has also directed tactical Commanders and other special squads in the Command to immediately embark on a constant raid of black spots and criminal hideouts in the area as it is applicable to other parts of Lagos State, in compliance with the command’s zero tolerance for crimes and criminality, particularly cultism,” he said.
