UTME 2026: JAMB Explains ‘No Result Yet’ Status, Withholds Results of Underage Candidates

JAMB reschedules UTME 2025

By DAYO ADESULU

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified growing concerns surrounding the JAMB No Result Yet status, confirming that candidates below the approved age threshold will not have their results released for now.

In an official statement issued by the Board’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB said it has received multiple inquiries from parents and guardians questioning why some candidates continue to see “No Result Yet” when attempting to check their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.

Why Candidates Are Seeing ‘No Result Yet’

According to JAMB, the “No Result Yet” message is not an error or technical glitch. Instead, it applies specifically to underage candidates whose results have been deliberately withheld.

The Board explained that results for candidates who do not meet the official age requirement have not been released. Therefore, whenever such candidates attempt to access their results, the system automatically returns the “No Result Yet” notification.

This clarification comes amid heightened anxiety among parents, many of whom feared delays or system failures were responsible for the issue.

JAMB Age Requirement for UTME Participation

Reiterating its policy, JAMB emphasized that only candidates who will be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, are eligible to register for and sit the UTME.

The Board maintained that this regulation remains a key guideline for tertiary education admission processes across Nigeria. However, it acknowledged that certain exceptions exist for academically gifted students.

Exceptional Candidates: Conditions for Consideration

While underage candidates are generally ineligible, JAMB noted that they may still be considered under a special “exceptional candidates” category—but only under strict conditions.

To qualify, such candidates must:

Score 320 and above in the UTME

Achieve at least 80 percent in subsequent screening stages

JAMB stressed that this pathway is highly selective and designed only for candidates who demonstrate outstanding academic ability.

Agreement With Parents on Screening Process

The Board further revealed that it had reached an agreement with parents of underage candidates regarding the screening process.

Under this arrangement, only candidates who meet the 320 score threshold will be shortlisted and invited to proceed to the next stage of assessment.

Those who successfully pass the additional screening may then be considered for admission under the exceptional category.

“This process ensures fairness while still providing an opportunity for truly outstanding candidates,” the statement noted.

Current Status of Underage Candidates’ Results

For now, JAMB has made it clear that all results belonging to underage candidates will remain unreleased until further notice.

The Board urged parents and candidates to remain patient and to understand that the policy is in line with existing educational regulations.

Public Reaction and Ongoing Concerns

The clarification is expected to calm widespread speculation on social media, where some users had raised concerns about possible irregularities in the UTME result processing system.

Education stakeholders have also weighed in, with many supporting JAMB’s strict adherence to age requirements as a way to maintain academic standards and maturity levels in higher institutions.

However, others argue that exceptionally gifted students should be given more flexible pathways into tertiary education.

What Candidates Should Do Next

JAMB advised affected candidates and their families to monitor official communication channels for updates, especially regarding the screening process for exceptional candidates.

Candidates who meet the age requirement, on the other hand, are encouraged to continue checking their results through approved platforms.

As the admission season progresses, the JAMB No Result Yet status remains a critical issue for many families, highlighting the ongoing balance between maintaining standards and recognizing exceptional talent in Nigeria’s education system.
