Focus Key Phrase: Dangote Refinery petrol supply

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has unveiled a major plan to inject 1.5 billion litres of petrol into the Nigerian market every month in December 2025 and January 2026. The move, announced ahead of the festive season, aims to stabilise fuel availability nationwide and eliminate the familiar end-of-year scarcity concerns.

The company also invited the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to the refinery for continuous, real-time monitoring of its daily production output, signalling an unprecedented shift toward transparency in the nation’s fuel supply chain.

Dangote Announces Daily Supply of 50 Million Litres of Petrol

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, disclosed during the weekend that the refinery will supply 50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily from December 1. He explained that this supply volume aligns with the company’s commitment to stabilising the petroleum market during a period when demand traditionally spikes.

“In line with our commitment to national wellbeing, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will supply 1.5 billion litres of PMS to the Nigerian market this month. This represents 50 million litres per day. We have notified the NMDPRA of this commitment and will match this supply volume in January,” Dangote said.

He added that the refinery plans to increase output to 1.75 billion litres in February 2026—over 60 million litres per day—as production capacity expands.

Refinery Dispels Doubts Over Domestic Supply Capacity

Speaking during a visit by the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) to the refinery and the adjacent fertiliser complex, Dangote revealed that the facility currently produces between 40 and 45 million litres of petrol daily. He noted that December’s increased output will further demonstrate the refinery’s ability to meet Nigeria’s entire petrol demand without relying on imports.

“We have the stock, and we have the production capacity. Our daily supply plan should put to rest the claims that Nigerian refineries cannot meet national PMS needs,” he stated.

Engagement With Marketers and CNG Haulage Initiative

In addition to boosting output, Dangote Refinery is engaging petroleum marketers to strengthen distribution networks across the country. Part of this collaboration includes expanding the use of CNG-powered haulage trucks, a move expected to reduce transportation costs and enhance efficiency.

“Our priority is to ensure Nigeria receives the products it needs. This is not driven by profit. It is about guaranteeing the availability of essential energy products, the same way we transformed the cement industry,” Dangote added.

Dangote Invites NMDPRA for Daily Verification of Output

To deepen public trust, the refinery formally wrote to the NMDPRA inviting officials to verify and publicly confirm daily production figures. The letter, signed by the refinery’s CEO, David Bird, emphasised the company’s readiness to publish daily production and stock data in both online and print media.

“We request your support to host NMDPRA officials onsite at our refinery from December 1, to validate and publicly confirm our daily supply volumes. In the interest of full transparency, we are prepared to publish our daily production and stock figures,” Bird wrote.

Massive Expansion Underway to Hit 1.4 Million bpd Capacity

Dangote disclosed that the refinery’s expansion plan is progressing toward achieving a massive 1.4 million barrels-per-day capacity. He said over 100,000 workers will be involved in the combined expansion of the refinery and fertiliser complex.

He reaffirmed that public support continues to drive the Dangote Group’s vision to strengthen Nigeria’s economic development and energy independence.

South-South Development Commission Commends Dangote

During the tour, SSDC Managing Director, Usoro Offiong Akpabio, praised Dangote’s leadership and his role in reinforcing Nigeria’s industrial capability and long-term energy security. She described the South-South region as the country’s natural energy corridor, rich in crude oil, gas infrastructure, maritime assets, agribusiness, and emerging industrial clusters.

Akpabio stressed that deeper collaboration with Dangote could unlock significant opportunities across petrochemicals, CNG infrastructure, product distribution, agriculture, and job creation.

“As the statutory development body for the South-South, we are prepared to support state-level policy reforms that strengthen ease of doing business. We believe strategic collaboration with the Dangote Group will help position our region as a major growth hub for energy and industrial expansion,” she said.
