The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has once again received commendation for fostering transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process, this time from Dominican University, Ibadan.
The accolade was delivered by the Registrar of the university, Rev. Fr. Samuel Onyiba OP, during the institution’s 9th Matriculation Ceremony, held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. The recognition highlights JAMB’s role in creating an equitable environment for both candidates and institutions to thrive.
JAMB’s Role in Ethical and Transparent Admissions
In his address, Rev. Onyiba emphasised that the day’s matriculation event would not have been possible without JAMB’s insistence on ethical, fair, and transparent admission practices.
He noted that such measures allow institutions to plan effectively and ensure deserving candidates gain entry based on merit, rather than manipulation or irregularities.
University Vice Chancellor Highlights Foundation of Excellence
The Vice Chancellor of Dominican University, Prof. Jacintha Opara, reiterated the importance of trust, competence, and equity as foundations for academic excellence. She urged matriculating students to build on this strong base and cultivate good character, discipline, and academic rigor as they pursue their studies.
Prof. Opara stressed that embedding these values early in students’ academic journeys prepares them to become socially responsible, morally sound, and globally competitive graduates.
Zonal Director Acknowledges University’s Partnership
Adding to the commendation, the Ibadan Zonal Director of JAMB, Mrs. Temitope Akintola, expressed confidence in Dominican University’s capacity to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to address local and global challenges.
She congratulated the institution for its commitment to academic excellence and underscored the importance of vision-driven leadership in sustaining high educational standards.
Strengthening Collaboration Between JAMB and Universities
Mrs. Akintola noted that fostering partnerships between JAMB and tertiary institutions is vital for ensuring a credible admission process and maintaining public confidence in Nigeria’s education system.
She highlighted that transparent procedures not only benefit candidates but also enhance institutional credibility, enabling universities to attract the best talents and strengthen governance.
Students Encouraged to Embrace Academic Values
The matriculants were urged to embrace Dominican University’s values and leverage the transparent admission system as a springboard for academic and personal development.
The ceremony concluded with a call for students to uphold integrity, diligence, and excellence, in line with both the university’s ethos and JAMB’s mission.
