President Donald Trump has said Iran is now “seriously talking” with the United States, raising cautious hopes of renewed diplomacy even as Washington openly weighs military options in response to Tehran’s violent crackdown on anti-regime protests.
Speaking amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, Trump confirmed that the U.S. has deployed major naval assets toward the region, a move widely seen as a warning to Iranian authorities as unrest continues inside the country.
“We do have very big, powerful ships heading in that direction,” the president said, underscoring what the White House describes as a strategy of deterrence backed by force.
“I hope they negotiate something that’s acceptable,” he added.
