Supreme Court: PDP Lacks the Locus Standi to File Disqualification Lawsuit Against Tinubu/Shetimma Presidential Ticket

Court of Appeal

The Supreme Court has dismissed the action seeking the disqualification of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential and vice-presidential candidates Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.

On Friday, a five-member bench of the Supreme Court ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacked the locus standi to file the lawsuit.

According to the commission, the PDP is not a member of the APC.

The PDP alleged that Shettima’s selection as Tinubu’s running mate violated sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act of 2022.

The opposition party argued that Shettima’s nomination to contest the position of vice-president and Borno central senatorial seat — at the same time — contravened the law.
