Babcock University has celebrated an outstanding academic milestone as 306 students graduated with First Class honours during its 24th Nova Undergraduate Convocation Ceremony, marking one of the institution’s most remarkable graduation records.
Out of 3,521 graduates, 306 earned First Class degrees, underscoring the university’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic education.
Best Graduating Student Emerges with 4.96 CGPA
Leading the graduating class was Miss Oluwapelumi Oluwatobiloba Amosu, who emerged as the overall best graduating student after achieving an exceptional 4.96 cumulative grade point average (CGPA).
Her remarkable academic performance, coupled with excellence in leadership, community service and spiritual development, earned her several prestigious awards.
Among the honours presented to her were the President’s Award, the Senior Vice President’s Award for the highest undergraduate CGPA, the Professors Ademola and Grace Tayo Award for excellence in character, leadership and academics, as well as the Bethbiree Genius Award worth N10 million, among other recognitions.
Other Outstanding Graduates Recognised
The university also honoured exceptional students from other academic programmes.
Toyin Ezekiel Olalere, representing the undergraduate part-time programme, received the Senior Vice President’s Award after graduating with a 4.56 CGPA, while Olamide Babatunde Raheem of the BUCODel programme earned the same honour with an impressive 4.92 CGPA.
Sanwo-Olu Inspires Graduates to Build on Their Foundation
Delivering the commencement lecture, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to build upon the strong educational foundation provided by Babcock University.
He reminded them that success would be determined not by entitlement but by the value they create for society.
According to the governor, the graduates are stepping into a new phase of life where resilience, adaptability and determination will define their future achievements.
He urged them never to surrender in the face of challenges, stressing that persistence remains one of the greatest ingredients for success.
Vice Chancellor Unveils Transformation Agenda
In his welcome address, Babcock University’s President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole, said the institution’s new administration has adopted “GRACE” as its guiding compass.
He disclosed that the university has made significant investments in modern infrastructure and digital technology aimed at improving teaching, learning, research and overall student experience.
Professor Ojewole also announced several landmark donations that will further strengthen the university’s academic environment.
These include a modern Department of Music and Performing Arts donated by alumnus David Adeleke, a vocational and skill development centre established by Dr. Akinyele Oladeji in partnership with Babcock Business School, and the nearly completed Dame Caroline Oladunni Adebutu School of Pharmacy, donated by Sir Kensington Adebutu.
Graduates Urged to Lead with Integrity
Professor Ojewole challenged the graduating class to dream big, work hard and become worthy ambassadors of Babcock University wherever life takes them.
He encouraged them to uphold integrity, diligence and excellence while making meaningful contributions to their communities and the nation.
