Gideon Olanrewaju, Nigerian education advocate, shared details of his invitation by the British Royals to share how his nongovernmental organisation has been ensuring access to alternative learning and empowerment opportunities for girls and women in Nigeria.
In a Facebook post, Olanrewaju had written: “What an absolute privilege and honour of a lifetime to be invited by the the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Megan Markle, to Windsor Castle to share how Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative, AREAi, is ensuring access to alternative learning and empowerment opportunities for girls and women in Nigeria.”
Explaining how the invite came to be, Olanrewaju says, “As a #Deloitte #OYW2019 Scholar and 1 of 10 #OneYoungWorld inspiring young leaders from around the world, it was incredibly humbling to join this roundtable discussion focused on gender equality, inclusion, education and empowerment of women and girls.
“Speaking about our peculiar projects and ventures that support gender equality and educational inclusion in our home countries which included South Africa, Nigeria, Iraq, Malawi and Bangladesh, we shared our achievements and best practices, showcasing how the work we do and collaborative leadership have helped empower the various local communities we represent to overcome complex challenges and significant obstacles.”
