Court Nullifies Kogi Deputy Governor’s Removal From Office

BY LEVI JOHNSON

The Kogi state high court sitting in Lokoja has on Thursday, voided the impeachment of former deputy governor of the state, Simon Achuba.

The court held that Achuba’s impeachment violated the constitution as the report submitted to the state assembly did not indict him.

John Olorun Femi, the presiding judge, ruled that the nomination and swearing-in of Onoja as deputy governor in place of Achuba violated due process.

Recall that the state assembly in October removed Achuba after the committee set up to investigate the allegations of misconduct levelled against him submitted its report.

It was stated that the panel report did not indict him, yet he was removed.
