BY QUADRI SALIU

The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, raised the hope of admission seekers into Federal Government tertiary institutions, as it passed two bills to establish two federal universities in Kogi State.

Federal University of Agriculture, Kabba and Federal University of Education, Ankpa were the two newly approved federal universities.

Pursuant to the consideration of two separate reports by the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, the Senate had to pass the bills for the two universities.

Senator Betty Apiafi, the Vice-Chairman of the Committee, during her presentation on behalf of the Chairman, Baba Kaita Ahmad, explained that the establishment of the Federal University of Education, Ankpa, became imperative in view of the need to find solutions to the problems of the education sector in Nigeria.

Apiafi said the institution when established, would “provide and promote sound basic education training as a foundation for the development of Nigeria, taking into account indigenous culture and the need to enhance national unity.”
