Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram Shutdown As Hackers Seize Domain

The foremost popular social media platforms, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram have stopped working globally, following an attempt by fraudsters to hijack the domain of Facebook.com.

Mr  Mark Zuckerberg. the owner of Facebook.com also owners  WhatsApp and Instagram that are widely in use across the world.

The aforementioned social media are currently experiencing major outages which occurred globally around  16:39 hours GMT on Monday.
Visitors to the WhatsApp web are experiencing 5xx Server Error while other apps run by the company were all down together.

Meanwhile, on Facebook verified WhatsApp’s Twitter account, the company said it is aware of the issue, adding that the tech company is working to get things back up and running.

It said: “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!”

But it was however gathered that a yet-to-be-identified hacker nuked the DNS A; an address file that holds an IP address of the domain name and AAA records for Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.

What this portends is that the main domain of the Facebook company, Facebook.com, is now available for purchase.
