Babcock University has intensified its efforts to produce industry-ready and globally competitive graduates through enhanced partnerships with professional and media institutions across Nigeria.
The initiative, unveiled by the University’s President/Vice Chancellor, Professor Afolarin Ojewole, emphasizes aligning academic training with workplace expectations and bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical industry experience.
Strengthening Town-and-Gown Collaboration
Professor Ojewole announced the development during courtesy visits to Lagos Television (LTV) and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). He highlighted that fostering sustainable collaboration between higher education and industry is central to preparing students for modern workplace realities.
“We want our students to gain practical industry exposure while still in school,” he said. “Such engagement ensures our graduates are well equipped to navigate life beyond the classroom while contributing meaningfully to society.”
Media Industry Engagement
During the visit to LTV, Professor Ojewole, accompanied by Dr. Babafemi Akintayo, Associate Vice President of Communication, Media, and Branding, and other senior officials, held discussions with the station’s General Manager, Mrs. Adesola Kosoko, and her management team.
Mrs. Kosoko welcomed the University’s delegation, pledging LTV’s support in training and mentoring future media professionals through structured internships and hands-on industry exposure.
Expanding Professional Development Opportunities
Beyond media internships, Babcock University is integrating professional certifications and capacity-building programmes into its academic framework. These initiatives aim to enhance graduate visibility, employability, and competitiveness in both local and global labour markets.
The University underscored that such programmes not only prepare students for immediate employment but also equip them with entrepreneurial skills and leadership capacity to drive innovation in society.
A Strategic Vision for Graduate Success
The initiative forms part of Babcock University’s broader town-and-gown strategy, designed to position its graduates as leaders, innovators, and agents of societal transformation.
Professor Ojewole reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to producing graduates who can translate research and academic knowledge into real-world solutions, thereby contributing to national and global development.
