Israel has intensified its military campaign against Iran, launching overnight strikes that, for the first time in the current operation, reportedly hit targets in Isfahan and Shiraz.
Israeli officials said more than 20 strategic sites were struck during the coordinated assault. Among the targets were facilities allegedly used to store advanced Ghadr ballistic missiles, a long-range weapons system considered a key component of Iran’s missile capability.
According to Israeli military sources, the operation focused on degrading Iran’s missile infrastructure before additional projectiles could be deployed. Officials claimed that dozens of ballistic and cruise missiles were destroyed in a single night, preventing their launch.
Missile Storage Facilities Targeted
The reported strikes on Isfahan and Shiraz mark a significant geographic expansion of the campaign. Both cities are known to host sensitive military and industrial installations.
Israeli forces stated that several storage depots linked to advanced missile systems were hit. The Ghadr ballistic missile, in particular, has featured prominently in recent tensions, given its extended range and strategic value.
Military sources further claimed that air defense systems protecting some of the targeted facilities were disabled during the operation, allowing strike aircraft to complete their missions.
Israel Claims Pre-Launch Interception Success
In a statement carried by Israeli media outlets, defense officials said the objective was to neutralize missile threats before they could be fired toward Israeli territory.
They asserted that the overnight operation eliminated dozens of ballistic and cruise missiles in storage or in pre-launch positions. If confirmed, such a development would represent one of the most concentrated single-night degradations of Iran’s missile arsenal in the ongoing confrontation.
However, independent verification of the full extent of the damage remains limited, as Iranian authorities have yet to provide a comprehensive assessment.
Strategic Implications
Security analysts note that sustained strikes on missile depots could significantly affect Iran’s ability to maintain prolonged missile exchanges. If stockpiles are being depleted faster than replenishment can occur, the balance of deterrence could shift.
At the same time, experts caution that Iran maintains a dispersed and layered missile infrastructure, making it difficult to assess the overall impact of any single operation.
The reported disabling of air defense systems also suggests a possible attempt by Israel to widen operational freedom over Iranian airspace in the short term.
Rising Regional Tensions
The latest escalation comes amid heightened regional tensions and a series of reciprocal strikes between the two countries. Each side has accused the other of provoking instability, while international observers warn that further escalation could draw in additional actors across the Middle East.
Diplomatic channels remain strained, and global powers have urged restraint. Nevertheless, the pace and scope of recent operations indicate that both sides continue to prioritize military objectives over de-escalation for now.
As of press time, Iranian officials had not released detailed casualty figures or confirmed the extent of infrastructure losses. Further developments are expected as both governments provide additional briefings.
The overnight strikes signal a new phase in the confrontation — one that appears increasingly focused on missile capabilities and strategic deterrence rather than limited tactical exchanges.
