The Administrative and Finance Committee of the West African Examinations Council has reaffirmed its strong confidence in the leadership of the Council’s Nigeria National Office despite ongoing union-related concerns affecting the institution.
The Committee made this known after its 240th meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where members reviewed the operations and administrative activities of WAEC Nigeria under the leadership of the Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut.
According to the Committee, Dr. Dangut and his management team demonstrated exemplary leadership, operational efficiency, and institutional discipline, especially during the ongoing 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
The Committee noted that despite recent union engagements and concerns within the organisation, the examination process across the country has remained smooth and uninterrupted.
Committee Praises Management Team
Following a comprehensive assessment of the Nigeria National Office, the Committee commended the management for maintaining professionalism and strategic focus in handling administrative duties and staff relations.
It stated that the leadership has continued to uphold WAEC’s core values while ensuring stability in the Council’s operations nationwide.
As part of its resolutions, the Committee passed a formal vote of confidence on Dr. Dangut and his management team, reaffirming its support for their continued efforts in advancing the Council’s mandate.
The Committee also warned against actions capable of damaging the reputation and integrity of the examination body.
Assurance to Candidates, Parents
Furthermore, the Committee reassured candidates, parents, ministries of education, and other stakeholders that WAEC’s activities across Nigeria remain stable and fully on track.
It stressed its commitment to transparency, staff welfare, and maintaining a peaceful working environment within the organisation.
The statement was issued by the Public Affairs Department of WAEC and signed by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola F. Adesina, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in Yaba, Lagos.
