The graduating class of NOVA 2026 at Babcock University has officially commenced the construction of a ₦45 million, 324-seater pavilion as part of its legacy project aimed at improving sports and recreational facilities on the institution’s Iperu campus.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held at the university, was led by the President/Vice Chancellor, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, alongside principal officers including the Vice President, Student Development, Prof. Toalni Williams, the class sponsor, Dr. Bukola Alao, and co-sponsors Pastor Muyiwa Oyinloye and Dr. Emmanuel Ikeagbu. Student representatives at the event included Samuel Owoeye, Vice President of BCCE, and Favour Ohuche, Vice President of BUCODEL.
Vice Chancellor Commends Students’ Commitment
Addressing students and guests during the ceremony, Prof. Ojewole praised the graduating class for investing in projects that will benefit future generations instead of engaging in destructive activities.
He assured the class that the university would prioritise quality over speed in delivering the project.
> “We are not going to rush to commission these projects, but be rest assured that the job is well done and delivered. The class members can come even five or 10 years after to see that their giving made a big difference,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor added that the initiative demonstrates professionalism and reflects the culture of giving back that Babcock University seeks to instill in its students.
Gazebo Renovation Also Underway
Beyond the pavilion project, the NOVA 2026 graduating class is also renovating five gazebos situated between the Samuel Akande Activity Hall and the university cafeteria on the main campus.
According to the university, the upgraded relaxation spaces will provide students with improved recreational areas that encourage social interaction and enhance campus life.
Pavilion Expands Earlier Structure
Explaining the rationale behind the project, co-sponsor Pastor Muyiwa Oyinloye said the pavilion is an expansion of an earlier structure built in 2019 that was damaged by a storm in 2023.
He noted that the graduating class is determined to rebuild a stronger and better facility.
Also speaking, Engineer Seun Omotosho disclosed that although the project was initially valued at ₦45 million, additional features may be incorporated before completion, increasing its overall value.
Legacy Project to Benefit Future Students
The university said the pavilion and gazebo renovation projects underscore the NOVA 2026 graduating class’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy on campus.
When completed, the facilities are expected to improve sporting activities, outdoor events and student relaxation while serving future generations of Babcock University students.
