Buhari Calls Jonathan to Sympathise with Him over the Gun Attack in Otueke

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday, called his predecessor, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, on the telephone to sympathise with him over the gun attack in his Otuoke home town residence in Bayelsa State.

One soldier was killed when the attackers invaded the building on Monday.

Jonathan was not in Otuoke at the time of the attack.

A State House statement by Buhari’s media aide, Mr Garba Shehu, said he described the attack as “tragic and unfortunate.”

It added that Buhari was saddened by the incident.

The Presidency stated further, “While commending the soldiers on guard for bravely repelling the attack, the President condoled with family members as well as officers and men of the Nigerian Army over the loss of one of the guards.

“President Buhari assured that the protection of the life of the former leader and all citizens of the country will continue to be the major preoccupation of his administration.”

There was no word on any arrests as of 5pm on Tuesday.
