Shuaib made the disclosure during the flag-off of the COVID-19 mass vaccination campaign in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.
According to him, so far the agency has been able to vaccinate 8.1% of eligible Nasarawa residents with the first dose, adding that only 5.3% are fully vaccinated with the second dose.
According to him, as of the 26th of November 2021, the total number of eligible people who had received the first dose of COVID vaccine in Nigeria was put at 6,242,224, stating that a total of 3,487,298 have received their second dose and are fully vaccinated.
He said: “About 1.5 million of our residents are at risk of severe disease, hospitalisation and death if they remain unvaccinated.”
Dr Shaib, therefore, explained that the federal government in conjunction with the Nasarawa State Government had expanded the vaccination sites in the state, noting that the aim of the mass vaccination campaign was to increase the number of fully vaccinated eligible people and fast track the country’s economic and social recovery.
His words: “The main aim of the mass vaccination campaign is to vaccinate 50% of Nigeria’s eligible population by January 2022.”
