Eligible students can receive 10 additional DPRP shares after subscribing for a minimum of 10 shares
The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched a new Student Share Grant Initiative aimed at introducing Nigerian students to the capital market while promoting financial literacy, responsible investing and long-term wealth creation.
Under the programme, eligible students aged 18 and above who attend recognised public or private tertiary institutions in Nigeria can qualify for 10 additional shares of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE (DPRP) at no extra cost after subscribing for a minimum of 10 shares through the Foundation’s designated platform.
The initiative is linked to the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of DPRP and is designed to give young Nigerians practical experience in investment and asset ownership.
How the Dangote Student Share Grant Works
According to the Foundation, students who wish to participate must first complete the required verification process through the designated platform, ipo.alikodangotefoundation.org.
After successful verification, eligible participants will be directed to the approved subscription channel.
Students must then subscribe for at least 10 DPRP shares in their own names and for their own benefit.
Those who successfully complete the process will qualify for the Foundation to fund an additional application for 10 DPRP shares in their names.
This means an eligible student who subscribes for the required 10 shares could have an additional 10 shares funded by the Foundation, subject to the programme’s terms and the applicable IPO process.
The Foundation said the initiative is intended to go beyond a single investment transaction by giving students an opportunity to understand how participation in the capital market works.
Dangote: Students Need More Than Academic Education
Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said empowering young people should include preparing them to participate meaningfully in economic activities and wealth creation.
He said the initiative was designed to help young Nigerians understand saving, responsible investing and long-term ownership.
“Supporting young people goes beyond providing access to education. It must also involve equipping them with the knowledge and opportunities to participate in economic growth and wealth creation.”
Dangote added that early exposure to investment could influence how young people approach financial decisions later in life.
According to him, understanding ownership and investment at an early age can help young people make informed financial choices and participate more actively in the formal economy.
Foundation Links Financial Literacy With Practical Investment
Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mrs. Zouera Youssoufou, described the programme as an effort to connect financial education with practical experience.
She said students would have the opportunity to understand the investment process, including verification, subscription, allotment and ownership.
“Financial literacy becomes more impactful when people can apply what they learn.”
Youssoufou explained that the Foundation’s ambition extends beyond the current DPRP IPO.
She said the programme is intended to encourage a lasting interest in financial literacy, investing and asset ownership among young Nigerians.
According to her, the experience could provide participants with a foundation for making more informed financial decisions throughout their lives.
Who Can Participate?
The Dangote Student Share Grant Initiative is open to students who meet the following broad requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must be enrolled in a recognised public or private tertiary institution in Nigeria.
- Must successfully complete the required student verification process.
- Must subscribe for a minimum of 10 DPRP shares through the designated subscription channel.
- The subscription must be made in the student’s own name and for the student’s own benefit.
Students who complete the requirements will qualify for the Foundation-funded application for an additional 10 DPRP shares, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
Initiative Is Limited to DPRP Shares
ADF said the grant cannot be transferred or used to purchase shares for another individual.
It also does not apply to shares in another Dangote company or securities issued by other companies.
The Foundation stressed that the Student Share Grant Initiative is a standalone programme focused on promoting financial literacy and participation in the capital market.
Participation is voluntary, and the Foundation said the programme should not be interpreted as investment advice or a recommendation to purchase DPRP shares.
Students and other prospective participants are therefore encouraged to study the relevant IPO documents and make their own investment decisions.
Why This Matters
The Dangote Student Share Grant Initiative comes at a time when financial literacy and access to investment opportunities are increasingly becoming important issues for young Nigerians.
Rather than learning about shares and the capital market only in classrooms, participating students will have an opportunity to experience the practical stages of an investment transaction.
For young people who have never owned shares before, the programme could provide an early introduction to concepts such as equity ownership, subscriptions, allotment and long-term investing.
However, as with any investment, participants need to understand the terms of the offer and the risks involved before committing their money.
How Students Can Apply
Eligible students can visit ipo.alikodangotefoundation.org to begin the student verification process.
After verification, successful applicants will receive instructions on how to proceed with the DPRP share subscription.
The Foundation said detailed information covering eligibility, participation procedures, terms and conditions, frequently asked questions and privacy provisions is available on the designated platform.
