FAKE NEWS ALERT: JAMB Still the Only Authorized Body for Tertiary Admissions — Minister Alausa

By DAYO ADESULU | October 16, 2025 | Abuja

The Federal Ministry of Education has refuted claims circulating online and in some newspapers alleging that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), dismissed the report as false, baseless, and misleading, clarifying that no such directive ever emanated from the Ministry.

“At no point did the Ministry issue or authorize any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions,” the Minister said.

Dr. Alausa emphasized that JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating all tertiary admissions in Nigeria. He warned that any contrary information should be ignored in its entirety.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering collaboration with JAMB and other education stakeholders to uphold transparency, fairness, and credibility in the country’s admission process.

> “The Ministry remains committed to protecting the integrity of admissions into higher institutions and ensuring that merit and due process are never compromised,” Alausa assured.

He also called on media organizations, bloggers, and online publishers to verify information from official sources before dissemination, cautioning that spreading unverified claims could mislead the public and create unnecessary confusion within the education sector.

The Ministry reiterated that there has been no change in JAMB’s central role in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework. It further advised prospective students, parents, and institutions to rely solely on the official websites and social media handles of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate updates on admission matters.
