Nigeria has made history! The country’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have defeated Japan 2-1 to emerge champions of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Rabat, Morocco.

The remarkable victory makes Nigeria the first African nation to win the prestigious FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, marking a historic milestone for African football.

The Flamingos demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience throughout the tournament, bouncing back from an opening 2-1 defeat to Poland to embark on an impressive winning run.

They defeated Puerto Rico and defending champions North Korea in the group stage before overcoming Mexico in the round of 16 and Venezuela in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals, Nigeria produced another outstanding performance, defeating Brazil 3-1. Queen Joseph opened the scoring, while Awawu Bashiru grabbed a brace to send Nigeria into the final for the first time.
