How Not To Discipline Children When They Do Something Wrong

Discipline a child is part of child’s training that every parent must engage. However, it is not every type of discipline that can be employed on a child who has done something wrong.

The purpose of discipline a child is to correct the child and not to kill the child. Mr Idowu Sikiru at this instance has exemplified one of the ways a good parent or guidance must not employ to correct his child.

Idowu Sikiru on Sunday burned the buttock, mouth and fingers of his five years old son, Segun Sikiru, with hot pan for stealing boiled fish.

Police have subsequently arrested him for this dastardly meted on his own biological son for stealing boiled fish.

The angry father who resides at Itowo in Oke Sopen area of ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, was arrested after a member of the public alerted the Police in Ijebu Igbo Divisional Headquarters that the suspect was about to kill the boy.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a release on Sunday said the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) of Ijebu Igbo Division, Kazeem Soltan, a Superintendent of Police, led a team of detectives to arrest the suspect.

Abimbola, a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) said further that investigation has revealed that the suspect put an aluminium plate on fire and when the plate was red hot, he forcefully sat the boy on it, inflicting serious burnt on his buttock after he had accused him of stealing fish.

The Police Spokesman added that the father also used the hot plate to burn the boy’s fingers and part of his mouth.

According to him, the boy has been taken to the hospital for treatment while the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has given directive for the transfer of the suspect to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department.

Abimbola said the suspect would be prosecuted upon conclusion of an investigation.
