NOUN: NUC Has Accredited All of Our Academic Programs

According to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), the National Universities Commission has approved all of its academic programs (NUC).
This is in response to a claim made by Ahmed Isa, owner and chairman of the Abuja-based broadcast organization Human Rights Radio and Television, during a popular episode of his show, “Brekete Family,” that some of the academic programs the University offers are not authorized.
Ibrahim Sheme, the NOUN’s Director of Media and Publicity issued the following statement: “On Thursday, October 6, 2022, Mr. Isa remarked indignantly on the daily program he hosts about schools that allegedly run some courses without government approval: “It’s just like National Open University of Nigeria wey dey do some courses without accreditation – 419!
“This glib statement, which Mr. Isa appears to like repeating whenever it pleases him, may sound innocent to his unwary listeners, but it was actually a piece of deceptive information covered in a concern for the good of the people,” the statement continued.
We at the NOUN were shocked to hear such blatant ignorance from a learned commentator in a public setting where the audience relies on him for reliable knowledge and direction. He could have confirmed that all of the University’s academic programs are accredited with a quick check at the National Universities Commission (NUC) or the NOUN itself, according to Sheme.

While pointing out that NOUN prides itself on providing services with excellence and integrity and is dedicated to only floating and operating courses that have NUC approval, he said the University would in fact never engage in any shady tactics in its task of providing education through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
Ibrahim Sheme claimed that the university has achieved great things, much to the delight of its over 500,000 students – the largest student body at any university in West Africa – and the admiration of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), the international organization for all open universities, as well as the African Council of Distance Education, based in Nairobi (ACDE).
As a media entrepreneur and well-known talk show host, “we expect Mr. Isa to always practice his vocation with conscience and not misuse the position and privilege that have been accorded to him,” he added.
