IDB Approves $98m For Bilingual Education In 9 States

The Board of Executive Directors of the Islamic Development Bank has approved a multi-year financial facility programme of $98m for the promotion of bilingual education in Nigeria from 2012 to 2015.

Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Osun States are the beneficiaries of the project.

Head, Public Relations and Protocol, Universal Basic Education Commission, David Apeh, in a statement in Abuja Wednesday, said the project was to improve the socio-economic condition of Nigeria, ensure inclusive education and promote bilingual education. 

Apeh said the major components of the project were to create access to basic education, improve quality and enhance the management capacity of school administrators.
