The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its soldiers apprehended five members of a suspected terrorist cell during a counterterrorism operation in the Qabatiya area of Judea and Samaria on Friday.
According to the IDF, the suspects were allegedly preparing to carry out an attack targeting Israeli civilians and security forces. The operation was conducted based on intelligence provided by the Israel Security Agency (ISA).
IDF Operation Targets Suspected Terror Cell
The military said the operation was part of a special counterterrorism effort aimed at disrupting planned attacks before they could be carried out.
IDF soldiers reportedly reached the locations where the suspects were believed to be operating and apprehended all five individuals in less than 10 minutes.
The military described the detainees as members of a terrorist cell involved in advancing plans for attacks in the area.
The operation took place in Qabatiya, an area in the northern part of the West Bank that has previously been the scene of Israeli military operations and clashes involving Palestinian armed groups.
M16 Rifle, Military Equipment Seized
Following the apprehension of the five suspects, IDF soldiers searched their homes, according to the military.
During the searches, troops located and confiscated an M16 rifle along with additional military equipment that the IDF said had been concealed by the suspects.
The seizure of the weapon and other equipment formed part of the military’s assessment that the group was preparing for terrorist activity.
The IDF did not immediately provide further details about the identities or affiliations of the five suspects.
Suspects Handed Over for Questioning
The five detainees were subsequently transferred to Israeli security forces for further questioning.
The questioning is expected to focus on the suspects’ alleged plans, their possible links to armed groups and whether additional individuals were involved in the reported preparations for an attack.
