IDF Soldier Killed in Northern Gaza Identified as 19-Year-Old Sergeant Yair Eliyahou

By DAYO ADESULU

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed the death of one of its soldiers during a combat operation in northern Gaza.

The fallen soldier has been identified as Sergeant Yair Eliyahou, 19, from Ezer, a moshav in southern Israel. He served in the IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps under the Northern Brigade and was killed during active military engagement in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

The IDF stated that his family has been notified and is being supported by military representatives.

Sergeant Eliyahou’s unit plays a critical role in battlefield operations, including dismantling explosive devices, opening safe passage for troops, and neutralizing militant infrastructure. The circumstances of his death reflect the high-risk nature of such operations in an increasingly volatile and dangerous combat zone.

“A Dedicated Defender”

Described by colleagues as brave, committed, and highly skilled, Eliyahou was remembered for his dedication to protecting Israel and supporting his fellow soldiers in some of the most dangerous areas of conflict.

Tributes from friends, comrades, and the public are pouring in online. Many have expressed their condolences using the traditional Hebrew tribute: “Zichrono Livracha” — “May his memory be a blessing.”

The IDF is expected to release details of his funeral arrangements in coordination with his family.

Eliyahou’s death brings renewed attention to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where Israeli troops remain engaged in intense fighting against Hamas and affiliated militant groups.
